Frozen Heat – Richard Castle

“Frozen Heat” is the 4th book in the Nikki Heat series of books by fictional author Richard Castle from the TV show “Castle”. I really like these tie-in books as they are featured in the show and you can also see bits in the books that are inspired by events that have happened in the show as Castle is supposed to be writing them using his experiences with Beckett and the others at the 12th Precinct.

This book focused on the murder of Heat’s Mother 10 years earlier. Just like Beckett in the TV show Nikki Heat’s Mum was murdered and her killer was never caught. A new case has links to her Mum’s murder and Heat and Rook try to put the pieces together but the more they dig the more danger they appear to be in.

“Frozen Heat” is very well written. I know there has been a great deal of speculation as to who the real author behind them is but to be honest I don’t think it matters. I like the pretence that Richard Castle is a real author and has written these books. The attention to detail is brilliant, even the acknowledgements are written from Castle’s point of view with mentions for all the main characters in the show. I like the insight they give you into Castle’s character as well. From the relationship he has written between Heat and Rook you can completely see how he feels about Beckett.

The ending of “Frozen Heat” was a massive cliff hanger so I’m looking forward to digging into the next instalment to see what happens.
